Ingredients
( 1 ) 2 cups tuver dal
( 2 ) 2 onions
(grated or cut into small pieces)
( 3 ) 2 table spoons amchur powder or a little tamarind
( 4 ) 1 table spoon dhana jeera powder
( 5 ) Oil
( 6 ) 1 tea spoon mustard seeds
( 7 ) 2 tea spoons red chilli powder
( 8 ) 7 tea spoon turmeric powder
( 9 ) 1 boiled potato
(10) 4 whole chillies
(11) 1 tea spoon cumin seeds
(12) Curry leaves
(13) ½ tea spoon asafoetida
(14) 1 table spoon jaggery
(15) 1 tea spoon garam masala
(16) 2 tea spoons M.T.R. masala
(17) 1 tea spoon ginger-chilli paste
(18) 4 table spoons coriander leaves (finely chopped)
(19) Salt to taste
Method
( 1 ) Boil the dal and onions in the pressure cooker. Beat the boiled dal well.
( 2 ) Add all the masalas. Heat 1 tea spoon oil in a pan. Add ½ tea
spoon mustard seeds, ½ tea spoon red chilli powder and ¼ tea spoon
turmeric powder. Add the potato pieces. Let it get cooked well.
( 3 ) Heat oil for seasoning. Add whole red chillies, ½ tea spoon
mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, 1 ½ tea spoons red chilli
powder, ½ tea spoon turmeric powder and asafoetida. Add seasoning, garam
masala and 2 tea spoons M.T.R. sambhar masala. Decorate with chopped
coriander leaves. Serve hot with uttappa, wada, idli or dosa and
chutney.
